They were astounded beyond measure, saying, ‘He has done everything well; he even makes the deaf to hear and the mute to speak.’
I have been astounded time and time again in my life with Christ. During seminary, I spent a few weeks in the Dominican Republic at the Episcopal seminary in Santo Domingo. While there, I developed a skin infection from where my insulin pump was inserted. Of course, this scared the living daylights out of me. I was in a developing country, far from home, and I had this nasty infection.
Anyway, I managed to get a plane ticket home early. At the airport in Santo Domingo, I stopped at a little cafe to buy breakfast. In a crazy moment of providence and grace, the change I received from the cafe came in American currency. The quarter I got back was a Texas quarter. It wasn’t much, but it was a little piece of home.
This astounded me. I spoke Spanish to the woman at the counter, I didn’t even ask for American change, I was heartbroken, I was scared out of my mind, and then I was astounded. I was astounded that I would happen to receive this quarter. To me, that was a sign of God’s providence.
How has God astounded you?
