Today is the Feast of St. Bartholomew the Apostle. St. Bartholomew was one of the twelve and was flayed alive for his faith in the Lord Jesus. Michelangelo painted St. Bartholomew holding his own skin in ” The Last Judgment.”
Though the image is eerie, I find it inspiring. For the means by which Bartholomew was killed was used for God’s glory.
Take a moment to look at this image and ask, what I am willing to die for? If I was painted in this piece of art, what would I be holding?
