Those who find their life will lose it, and those who lose their life for my sake will find it.
Over the years I have pondered the meaning of this verse many times. Jesus gave us a mystery by saying that if I lose my life for his sake, then I will find it. I think what he is saying is, if I lose my self-centered life, and if I look to Jesus then I will find the person I was created to be, the life I was created to live, and I will find Jesus. So the key to solving this mystery is to lose our self-centered lives for Jesus’ sake, and to live our lives for Jesus’ purpose.
