Oblation Bearers

Oblation Bearers in the Episcopal Church are lay members, including families or individuals, who bring the bread and wine to the altar during the Offertory at Holy Eucharist.  They represent the congregation, presenting the gifts to be consecrated, symbolizing the offering of their lives and labor to God.

Duties of Oblation Bearers:

• At THE PEACE during the service, make your way to the back of the church by the baptismal font 

• One person picks up the cruet of wine with the handle facing forward 

• One person picks up the ciborium containing the host 

• Stand in front of the baptismal font while the ushers pass the collection plates 

• When the ushers have completed collection, someone at the altar will come forward. Walk forward and hand the bread and wine to that person. (I like to hand the wine first to make sure they have a good hold on it.)  

• Bow reverently and return to your seats 

*Please remember to be reverent in your duty as Oblation Bearer which means no side conversations when holding the gifts.
