Job Description

Ministry Context:

Holy Comforter Episcopal Church in Spring, Texas, is a growing church that currently has an annual budget of over $600,000. The church takes seriously its responsibility to steward their resources in service to God’s work in this world. This commitment is reflected in the church’s mission statement: “We worship God, love our neighbors, create community, follow Jesus, and steward our resources.”

Job Overview:

The Financial Administrator (FA) is responsible for tracking all financial transactions of the church in a timely and accurate manner. This is a part-time (20 hours per week) salaried position.

Principle Duties:

  • Process payroll and maintain accurate information for employees.

  • Reconcile accounts and prepare deposits.

  • Prepare financial reports for the Treasurer, Vestry, and Rector.

  • Track expenses and receipts in comparison to the church budget.

  • Assist with the annual budget preparation process.

  • Track donations and send out donor statements.

  • Calculate and record unrealized gains/losses on held securities.

  • Generate and file 1099 forms.

  • Provide all necessary information to the Financial Review/Audit committee.

  • Complete financial sections of any diocesan reports and the annual parochial report.

  • Track and prepare payment for all bills.

  • Review and certify employee W-2 Forms

  • Communicate clearly in everyday language about financial matters with parishioners.

  • Assist with signature changes on accounts.

  • Follow established financial procedures and help resolve any weaknesses in these procedures.

  • Use QuickBooks (our bookkeeping software) and Planning Center Giving (our donor management software).

  • Maintain strict confidentiality about donors’ records and financial situations.

  • Collaborate with other staff of the church using their gifts and skills to support your work and offering your gifts and skills to support their work.

  • Perform additional duties assigned by the rector.

Ideal Qualifications:

  • Comfort with Microsoft applications (Teams, Outlook, Word, Excel, etc.).

  • Self-motivated with excellent organizational skills.

  • Proven experience managing and tracking financial operations.

  • Good interpersonal skills and ability to work with all kinds of people.

  • Established record of trust and integrity.

Education and Experience:

  • At least three years of experience with financial administration with a church or nonprofit.
